Mauritania coup

There could be a transition period of up to six months before Mauritania can again go to the polls following August’s military coup, according to Said Djinnit, the UN secretary general’s special representative for West Africa. The coup, led by General Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, deposed the country’s first democratically-elected president, Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi after the latter sacked the heads of the military.
